DESIGN & BUILD

ecological and thoughtful expression

Your garden. Ecologically-driven and naturalistic by design

APPROACH

  • Site First Design. The existing conditions guide how the garden will bloom. Special considerations for soil-health, storm-water management and how the space wants to be used guide the process.

  • Seasonal composition. Gardens are the ever-changing performance art! Each season is layered into the next for an ongoing visual narrative.

  • Sustainable practice. Plant selection favors regional species and hybrids. We aim for the 70% native, 30% non-native approach to ensure you will have a balanced and pollinator-driven, ecologically-harmonious green space.

  • Grown, not just sourced. When possible, plants are grown directly at WildingCat Farm, giving Donyale a grower's understanding of the plant's needs long before it is placed into your garden.

SERVICES

  • Design Consultation- A one-time session to assess the site, discuss vision, and outline design direction and next steps.

  • Design/Build- End-to-end landscape design and installation from initial concept, to drawings and planting plans to hardscaping and planting.

  • Quarterly maintenance- Ongoing seasonal care to keep your garden healthy and evolving as nature intended, with visits scheduled quarterly.

PARK SLOPE

veg to table

SUNNY BACKYARD BROOKLYN

This wonderful family hosts delicious micro farm-to-table dinners so we needed distinct areas for the Veg bed, cooking area and dining table along with tons of plants for pollinators to nibble on, birds to perch on and family pets to explore. This garden became a unique ecosystem with the addition of the steel water feature.

MIDWOOD

SUB-TROPICAL JUNGLE

SUBWAY SANCTUARY

This hidden gem lives behind the elevated Q train platform in Brooklyn allowing a private maximalist urban sub-tropical garden to thrive. This backyard is full of perennials, a veg garden, succulent corner, a green house, patio seating, space for tropical houseplants to live outside and hosts a bevy of native insects, animals and New Yorkers; giving everyone a chance to live their best lives in the wild.

DITMAS PARK

SHADY (RE)TREAT

NATURALLY DITMAS

This beautiful Ditmas Park treasure needed a storm-water makeover. A modulated ground cover was added to mimic a woodland edge full of native shade perennials, field stone paths, river stones and branches. The awesome 3 kids who live here explore all that nature can provide them.

BEDSTUY

BEAUTY

A PEACEFUL PATIO

A beautiful heritage oak tree flanks this backyard wonder where our hosts wanted a flexible space where they can both entertain and enjoy the peace & quiet of a BRK backyard.

HARLEM

A PLACE TO REST

FAMILY CARE

This beautiful family needed a quiet space to escape the busyness, a space for a daily check-in with nature. A place for a daughter to chill with her dads for some home time after homework.

KENSINGTON

SITTING UNDER A TREE

A PLACE FOR A PUP

This sweet Kensington backyard’s defining feature were these wondrous old conifers that provided dappled light and a little area of respite. A pup named Jasper longed to chase moths and roll in some stones for a quick back scratch. These woodland shade planting surrounded the trees while still providing space for temperate houseplants to summer.

WILDNESS BIG AND SMALL

MEADOWS TO PLANTERBOXES

We can create a patch of wildness for you in any capacity that you need. Sometimes this is a full native meadow and sometimes it is a windowbox. We believe everyone needs nature and we want you to experience the joy it can bring.
